A 13-year old boy, Mohammed Al-amin, has reportedly committed suicide by hanging himself in his room in Sarakiyo, a village in Akko Local Government Area of Gombe State. The Police Public Relations Officer in Gombe State, DSP Mary Malum, said the boy, identified as Muhammadu Al-Amin, was found hanging in his room.
Malum said that about 4 p.m. on Monday, Al-Amin’s father, Inspector Abdu Manu, who is attached to Criminal Investigation Bureau of Pantami Division, received a phone call from his wife that their 13-year-old son had been found dead in his room.
According to Punch, the father reported that his son allegedly hanged himself with a rope after returning from quranic School. Malum said following the report, a team of policemen was immediately dispatched to the scene and a photograph of the boy was taken.
She said the team recovered an exhibit rope as well as the corpse, which was taken to Gombe Specialist Hospital mortuary for autopsy.
She said the case was still being investigated and that further details would be made available after.
A resident of the area who pleaded not to be named told News Agency of Nigeria that the boy was seen about noon playing with his mates and that later, news of his demise spread in the evening.
This is coming after it was reported that a 48-year-old man, Segla Hunvu, who was unable to face the harsh economic situation in the country, committedsuicide.
Punch reported that Hunvu who lived on Jogbenu Street, Torikovi Town in the area, was found dangling with a rope around his neck after he had earlier told his eldest son to take care of himself and younger ones as he was going on a very long journey.
A relation of the deceased said he must have had the idea of killing himself as he went around visiting relatives prior to committing suicide.
“Hunvu came to the Ajegunle, Apapa area, on Monday to see his younger brother, Michael Hunvu. We did not know he came to bid us farewell. He had earlier told his eldest son, who is a teenager, to take good care of himself and his younger ones.
He did not come out clearly to say he wanted to kill himself. Nobody knew the reason he killed himself. We suspect that he was frustrated” he said.
