A Plateau lawmaker, Yusuf Gagdi who was said to be on his way home from the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, was involved in an accident this evening as his vehicle ran into another vehicle being driven by a personnel of the Nigerian Airforce.
The former Deputy Speaker of Plateau State House of Assembly was one of the victims of the accident which occurred at about 4pm at Yingi area, along Rayfield Road, Jos and involved about four vehicles.
The Plateau Lawmaker who represents Kantana constituency in the State’s House of Assembly escaped with minor injuries and a bleeding mouth, while his 4 MATIC Jeep with Abuja Registration No: ABJ – 511 AP, was damaged.
It was further gathered that the Airforce personnel driving the other vehicle with Abuja Registration No: RBC – 962 AJ sustained serious wounds in his head, and has been taken to the hospital by his colleagues.
This is coming few months after it was reported that John Shagaya, a former senator representing Plateau south, died following a motor accident that occurred while on his way to Langtang, Plateau state.
He was recently appointed as the chairman National Institute for Policy and Strategy Studies (NIPSS) by President Muhammadu Buhari. Shagaya was a former minister of internal affairs. He was born on September 2, 1942.
Mr Dan Dandur, former Chairman, Langtang North Local Government who confirmed the incident, said that the 75-year-old retired army general was on his way to Jos from his village in Langtang, when the accident occurred at Amper in Kanke Local Government of the State.
“Shagaya died in a road crash today; we are right now with the corpse at the Air Force Military Hospital, Jos” he said.
“Shagaya was travelling along with his driver and orderly when the accident occurred, but the two survived with serious injuries and are receiving treatment at the hospital,” he said.
Dandur described Shagaya’s death as “shocking and unbelievable”.
“His death is too sudden. I just can’t believe that he has left us,” Dandur, who holds the traditional title of “Baraya Langtang”, told NAN.
