A pipeline explosion has been reported in Ilara axis of Ogijo, Sagamu Local Government Area of Ogun State. The affected pipeline is reportedly one of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC pipelines in the area.
The cause of the explosion could not be ascertained at the time of filing this report, as the entire area went up in flames.
Speaking with Tribune Online, the State Police Command Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Oyeyemi, confirmed the incident, saying the fire had been put under control.
Oyeyemi, a Deputy Superintendent of Police, told our reporters that investigation is on to ascertain the cause of the incident.
“Everything is under control as we speak. Although the cause of the fire is not known, but investigations have already begun to ascertain what could have led to the explosion” he said
He further said that men of the State Police Command led by the Area Commander of Ogijo, military personnel protecting the pipelines and some other security agencies were on ground to monitor the environment.
There has been series of explosion in the country in the past one week. Most notable of all was the Lagos Tanker explosion that occurred on the Otedola Bridge in Lagos on Thursday, claiming about 9 lives.
