Nigerian film maker, Niyi Akinmolayan has reacted to the depression trend which has affected some Nigerians and in some cases leading to suicide.
In his Instagram post however, Niyi Akinmolayan stated that he doesn’t agree that all suicides were caused by depression, as he feels some people just want to leave when they are done. According to him, it is an idea and circle of life he embraces totally.
His post came with the caption;
You don’t have to like his post tho. Don’t work yourself up about it if you don’t. I think people should be free to leave once they are done. I never get too emotional about suicide. Why do we always assume people who commit suicide were sick and depressed. You Either Die A Hero, Or You Live Long Enough To See Yourself Become The Villain.
Banky W who however reacted to the post wrote;
This is a disgusting post, and extremely insensitive considering what just happened. I’m stunned.
@niyi_akinmolayan you are entitled to your opinion about suicide.. the point I am making is that you are extremely insensitive and misguided for choosing this moment to share it. Smh.
@niyi_akinmolayan to state that you embrace the idea of him killing himself, when he has left behind family, friends and fans all over the world who loved, cared about, and depended on him is quite possibly the most heartless thing U could have said in this moment. People are grieving and you say you embrace the idea that he killed himself??? Are you serious??? I can’t believe we are even discussing this. You could very easily have said “Guys, we don’t know why he killed himself. It may not have been depression.. it could be another reason, but we will never know because he left no explanation. Let’s just focus on the amazing life he lived and the great legacy he left behind, instead of assuming we know the reasons behind his death.” You’re smart and intelligent enough to put it that way. You’re just heartless. I’m done with this exchange. God bless.
Niyi Akinmolayan who however reacted to Banky W’s claims, wrote;
@bankywellington I’m also disgusted that a fine man’s legacy is been ridiculed with the word “depression” and “mental health”. What if you are all wrong. Why can’t you just say he’s dead and remember him for the good things. You all say he committed suicide like it’s a bad thing he did. It’s disrespectful to his legacy
@bankywellington u don’t have to agree but I don’t believe all suicide is depression.
@bankywellington lol. Like I said. Too emotional about death. I’m not. Sorry.
