Wangari Muturi Karanja and Sammy Mwangi Kang’ethe together with another man, were shot dead after policemen stormed the granny’s home in search of a victim, Margaret Waitherero, who had been kidnapped by her gang.

An AK 47 assault rifle, a homemade gun and several bullets were recovered from the grandmother’s home during the raid.

Combined efforts of police officers from Murang’a and Nairobi bore fruits following the rescue Margaret Waitherero from Samar village in Maragua who had been kidnapped by the granny and her gang.

The kidnappers had demanded ransom from Waitherero’s family before they could release her, with police sources confirming that the woman’s husband had sent part of the ransom.

There was a heavy police presence of uniformed police officers and others in plain clothes who maintained surveillance during the burial, with hope that accomplices in crime of the deceased could attend their final farewell.

Locals called on the police to beef up security in the village as insecurity levels were on the rise.
