A Chemical Engineering graduate of the Olabisi Onabanjo University has been arrested, a month after stealing a phone at a church he was attending for the first time.
The suspect, Seun Ajayi Hicks, had on Sunday 4th December, 2017, stolen a Samsung Grand Prime phone during praise and worship, at a church in Meiran, Lagos State.
Unknown to him, the owner of the phone is a tech guru. He was monitoring all Ajayi’s activities on the phone.
After removing the owner’s sim and inserting his, his phone number was immediately transmitted to the owner’s back up. The number was then used to trace Ajayi to his Facebook page.
Recall that in August last year, an unidentified Nigerian man living in Malaysia was stripped and beaten by fellow Nigerians for allegedly stealing phones and other valuables.
In a Facebook post by one Elder Igbinoghene, the young man was stripped to his underpants, tied and thoroughly beaten.
The man who later confessed that he was from Abia State explained that he initially came to beg for his house rent. However, he decided to steal the items when he discovered that the occupants of the house were not around and the doors were left open.
The Abia State Indigene said he had been living in Malaysia for three years.
In the video, the group of men who spoke in the Igbo language and Pidgin English threatened to kill him.
Also, in October, a Nigerian man caught on CCTV stealing phone in a shop in Lagos.
He was caught via the Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) pocketing a Samsung S7 phone from the boutique.
According to the CCTV camera the man whose identity has not been revealed, entered the boutique holding bottle water. He was later seen checking out some female outfits when he saw the phone on a stool, picked it up and tucked it in his back pocket.
He left the store after his mission was accomplished but the video footage from the CCTV has been submitted to the police for proper investigation.
