The Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, took to the runway of the Africa Fashion Week Nigeria which held in Lagos state.
According to the monarch, he took the the runway in a bid to show the beauty of locally-made fabrics and products.
He encouraged Nigerians to go for made-in-Nigeria fabrics and products to enable job creation and youth empowerment through the fashion industry.
Ogunwusi made this known in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria at the end of the sixth edition of the two -day Africa Fashion Week held in Lagos.
According to the Ooni of Ife, such promotions are being encouraged by the Africa Fashion Week, Nigeria and London, which had continued to promote the pride of Nigerian and African fabrics.
It can be recalled that few days back, the wife of Ekiti State governor, Bisi Fayemi – who was also present at this event – called on the Federal Government of Nigeria to ban importation of ‘Aso-Oke’ fabric into the country.
“I will be a hypocrite to say that we should ban all fabrics because I do wear imported fabrics every now and then.
“But when it comes to Aso-oke that I know that our women in our local communities toil at to do; and do not have the capacity to produce to scale, instead of investing in that capacity, we are acquiring a situation that others are coming to rip off our intellectual property.
“So, I join others to call for a ban on imported Aso-oke from China.”
