It was a moment of celebration in a community in Isiala Ngwa South LGA of Abia State as the State’s Assembly Speaker’s aide, empowered an old woman with a bicycle.
The Assembly Speaker’s aide posed for photos with members of Kweremee, a personal political structure of the Hon. Speaker who gathered in celebration of the empowerment. Here are photos of the old woman with her bicycle below;
Few months ago, it was also reported that Abia State lawmaker, representing Ohafia north constituency in the Abia State House of Assembly, Mandela Obasi empowered his constituents with cutlasses and hoes.
This came barely a week after the senator representing Abia north zone in the National Assembly, Mao Ohuabunwa distributed frying pans to constituents as part of his empowerment programme. However reacting to the backlash he faced after photos of his empowerment materials went viral, the Senator Representing Abia North, Chief Mao Ohuabunwa, said he had no regrets empowering his constituents with frying pans.
The senator said there was nothing wrong in what he did despite the mockery by Nigerians on the social media.
“I have no regrets being called ‘frying pan senator’. Those who call me ‘frying pan senator’ should have said ‘skill acquisition and empowerment senator’; that would have been nice. Frying pan is just an item out of the lot. What would you give the woman frying bean cake, popularly known as akara?
“I didn’t give only frying pan; we gave gas cylinders, stoves, spoons and money; that’s what she needs,” he said.
“Would you be a taxi driver and we give you train? If you are a taxi driver I will give you taxi; I have distributed tricycles, sewing machines and many more. So, I don’t regret nor feel bad when my constituents call me ‘frying pan senator’,” he said.
