Former captain of the Super Eagles of Nigerian, Austin Okocha has been named in the FIFA Legends squad that will face the Russian National Team Legends.
The match is an exhibition match at the Football Park in Kaliningrad on Sunday, June 3, 2018. The Kaliningrad Stadium will host the Swiss, Croatian, English and Nigerian teams during the 2018 World Cup.
Other names included in the FIFA legends squad include;
Ex-goalkeeper of Switzerland, Pascal Zuberbühler, ex-England defender, Wes Brown, Cafu, former Croatian midfielder, Niko Kranjčar, and ex-Portugal striker, Nuno Gomes.
The Russia Legends will be represented by ex-players of the national team: goalkeeper Ruslan Nigmatullin, defender Dmitri Sennikov, midfielders Alexander Mostovoi, Alexei Smertin and Andrei Tikhonov, striker Alexander Panov.
Austin Jay Jay Okocha featured in Nigeria’s three World Cups teams of 1994, 1998 and 2002, he was also in Russia a year ago for the opening of the Confederations Cup Park in Kazan.
In other reports, the head coach of the Super Eagles, Gernot Rohr, has cut down his provisional squad for this summer’s World Cup from 30 to 25 players.
Those removed from the squad are: Moses Simon, Dele Ajiboye, Uche Agbo, Stephen Eze and Junior Lokosa.
The players will not travel with the rest of the team to London, where Nigeria take on the Three Lions of England on Saturday.
After that game, Rohr will drop two more players and then name his final 23-man squad.
Team sources claim four players battling for two spots are: Ola Aina or Elderson Echiejile for left-back and Joel Obi or Mikel Agu for central midfield.
