President Buhari’s aide on social media, Lauretta Onochie has claimed that no Nigerian life has been lost in South Africa in the last few days.
Lauretta Onochie took to her official social media page to make the declaration and clarify to Nigerians that no citizen of the country was killed in the recent Xenophobic attacks in South Africa.
NO NIGERIAN LIFE HAS BEEN LOST IN SOUTH AFRICA IN THE LAST FEW DAYS. The videos being paraded on the Social Media are old videos that are unrelated to Nigerians in South Africa – Nigeria’s External Affairs Minister

This comes as a shock after Nigerians have carried out counter attacks in South African owned businesses in Nigeria, looting and destroying their properties.
See some reactions to the post below.
****Guys I’m resident in South Africa and what @Laurestar is saying is the truth. I don’t agree with her but on this one she’s saying the absolute truth, no Nigerian was killed, the only person killed was a taxi driver and that was what sparked the attacks. – RAS KELZ
****This no life has been lost narrative is just stupid, nigerians were attacked and you’re saying nobody died , is it until someone die there should be outrage? Naturally no nigerian in Nigeria or abroad should face any form of physical abuse from anybody. – Oluwatomiwa Ayorinde
****I feel like this whole thing was severely overblown because of fake news.. Nigerian shops weren’t even the most affected by this. There aren’t even any reports of Nigerians being physically harmed. Only looting of certain shops – Anelle
****Shame shame shame.. Dont allow the family of those that lost their loved ones see this. – @emmamej
****If they are old videos of same occurrence, what separates the action of the old from the current situation of your citizens scampering for safety if not your inability to be responsive and proactive. – @matAkinkanju
****And the government released this? If to say I Dey near you i for knock you for head…you don’t even rate us at all…you think using block letters makes it any more less a lie? – @TwirraNG
