Nisanga Mayadunne, Shantha Mayadunne dead:

Nisanga Mayadunne and her mother, Shantha Mayadunne had been staying at the Shangri-La hotel in Colombo, one of four luxury hotels before it got targeted and blown up in the Sri Lanka bomb blasts.

Nisanga Mayadunne, aged in her 30s, had studied at the University of London. Shantha Mayadunne was a well respected and an inspirational chef for Sri Lankans.

She had 30 years of experience in the field of culinary art and became one of the most popular Sri Lankan television chefs.

Shantha has learned advanced international cooking techniques at reputed cooking schools in many countries such as Australia, UK, Singapore, Thailand and India.

As she grew popular, she started to lead classes, through workshops, mass media programs. Shantha published two books, the first in 2001 while the second in 2005.

Just before the explosion, Nisanga posted a selfie of the group sitting down to eat together. Her caption for the picture read:

‘Easter breakfast with my family’.

According to one hotel manager, one of the suicide bombers checked into the Cinnamon Grand in Colombo under a false name, waited in a queue for a breakfast buffet and then blew himself up.

There are unconfirmed reports that the attack at Shangri La hotel was carried out by suicide bomber Zahran Hashim, while Abu Mohammad has been identified as the attacker at the Batticaloa church.
