Nigerians don’t have right to access internet on election day – Aye Dee

Controversial security expert, Mr Aye Dee has said Nigerians don’t have the right to access internet on election day as so it should be shut down.

In his defence, Aye Dee argued that the internet encourages the spread of fake news, which is very much likely to ignite crisis across the country during and after the election.

He wrote:

Access to the internet in Nigeria is NOT a right, if @inecnigeria believes internet access during the election needs to be restricted in order to prevent the spread of #FakeNews, specifically fake election results, it would be the right thing to do for Nigeria’s sake.

The internet inĀ  should be shut down by 11:59PM on Friday, Feb. 15th, 2019 and restored by 11:59pm on Saturday, February 16th, 2019. If this is not done, there will be chaos as fake results are bound to be brandished by both @OfficialAPCNg and @OfficialPDPNig, causing chaos.

In this crucial election, Nigerian cannot afford to have the electorate manipualted by rumors and propaganda emanating from both major parties. Therefore, it makes sense to ensure the sanctity of the electoral proccess by restricting access to the internet.

Bangladesh with a population of 160 million + shut down its internet before its elections, heaven did not fall, the poll was orderly , free and fair. Nigeria deserves same.

I did not say internet should be restricted for just PDP supporters or just for APC supporters, I said it should be restricted for ALL Nigerians.

  1. For me I quite disagree with his submission, there should be a better way to prevent fake news on election day rather than stop internet access.

  2. Say no to internet connection on the day of election is not still going to stop people from saying shits neither is it gonna stop the correction that will carried on that day

  3. This is not too good a practice because it will not allow people to cover any atrocities perpetrated on election day.

  4. As far as Nigerian re concerned wit or without internet fake news can b spread, shouting down d internet will nt guarantee a free and fair election by d way y didn’t dey do same in other elections den it dis one,d idea is nt acceptable to me

  5. I dont think it can work in Nigeria because all hell will be set loose if they try to do that so its better they work on what has been on ground

  6. No to internet connection on the day of election is not still going to stop people from saying shits neither is it gonna stop the correction that will carried on the day of the election.

  7. I strongly disagree with him,how so we now know what is happening around the country when we are not online that day

  8. That’s his opinion and I think he should stick to it personally. The internet is very useful to a lot of people and shutting it down for even one day doesn’t sound nice.

  9. Their your opinion and sorry we wont pay that.
Internet will not be shut down because the international will have to know what is happening. No vote will b rig again

  10. that is his own opinion, as for me I don’t think shutting down the internet on election day will stop the spread of fake news.

  11. You are right in a way, if we want a free and fair election void of violence I feel this might help at least in curbing fake news though there will be the disadvantage of not reporting crime @scene of election and getting speedy replies

  12. nice observation at least it would minimize the election violation the government should agree with it if they want peaceful election

  13. Internet connection or no internet connection if Nigeria want to spread there fake news they will definately do that

  14. I agree to that because of fake news publishers and they may also use it to carry on wrong information

  15. What kind Of nonsense is dat dey should better look for other means fake news can also be done by phone call

  16. You are entitled to your own opinion. If is in their plans, they can consider it.

If internet is restricted, other means will emerge that you too could not think of.

This is Nigeria not Bagladash or Iraq

  17. The guy has some point some point but then it should not be stopped because they don’t stop in other country so for fake news we later know the truth

  18. That decision is not welcome
There is other people that using internet for source of communication to there family and some are also use it as source of uncome
And internet is the fastest place to pass information across the country

  19. Rubbish. What happens to people who work with their phone? What happens to a mother that communicates with her husband through WhatsApp cos he is far? What happens to people who wish you book flights? Abeg think of the what ifs not just let us

  20. He has good reason but with or without the internet Nigerian will still spread fake news them no dey fail for that one.

  21. My dear whether internet shutdown or not what will happen will still happen but I pray that God will not allow any bad to happen in this election for the sake of his children
