A 34-year-old Nigerian man has lost his life in India in a case of suspected drug.
According to The Hindu, the Nigerian man died under mysterious circumstances in his rented flat in north Delhi’s Burari, India where he was staying in a live-in relationship with a woman, who is also an African national.
The police suspect that the man, identified as Jim James, died of a drug overdose. However, they are waiting for the autopsy report to ascertain the exact cause of death.
Jim had been living in the rented accommodation since 2014. Deputy Commissioner of Police (North) Nupur Prasad speaking on the incident said;
“We looked for his passport or any other documents that could ascertain the nationality of the accused, but did not find any. We have contacted the Nigerian embassy to ascertain his identity.”
The police said that the incident came to light on Monday night, when Jim was admitted to a private hospital in Burari in an unconscious state by his live-in partner. When the doctors asked her what had happened to him, the woman could not give a satisfactory answer, said a police officer associated with the case.
“We have spoken to the doctors. They suspect it to be a case of drug overdose. The body has been kept at mortuary. We are waiting for a response from embassy officials to proceed with other legal formalities,” Ms. Prasad also said.
