According to the residents of the area, the baby had been carried away by flood from where it was earlier dumped before it was finally discovered within the area in the early hours of the day. The eyewitnesses described the incident as an abomination, rained all manner of curses to the person responsible for the action, as they wondered what could have led to that.

One of the residents of the area who pleaded anonymity as he spoke to newsmen, said;

“We woke up today to see a day old girl that was dumped inside water channel. The baby was dumped elsewhere, but rainfall pushed it down to the junction due to the sloppy nature of the land.

“This is a sign that the world is coming to an end when people no longer have regards for human lives. It will not be well with whoever that have done this”.

Another woman who called on relevant authorities to come and dispose the corpse before its decay, cautioned women against killing of innocent souls, saying the consequences could be disastrous.

“Some women have no children today because of the heinous atrocities they committed during their youthful age,” she said.

Few months ago, it was reported that residents of Diobu, Rivers State woke up to see a baby wrapped in a white cloth and abandoned at the middle of the road among heaps of refuse.

An unknown person suspected to be a single mother had allegedly dropped the one-day old baby in front of St. Thomas Anglican Church, Mile 2 Diobu, in Port Harcourt, Rivers State. The baby died after three hours of neglect by residents.
