The Publisher of Sahara Reporters, Omoyele Sowore, has been dragged to court alongside his news platform by the General Overseer, Mountain of Fire and Miracles Ministry, Dr Daniel Olukoya.
The Mountain of Fire and Miracles Ministry founder who is seeking N10bn in damages, alleged that despite complaints, Sowore and his Sahara Reporters stuck to publishing offending stories about him and his church.
It was gathered that Sahara Reporters had previously been asked by Olukoya, to pull down all the offending stories against him and his church within seven days but Sowore and his platform refused, hence the suit filed before the Akwa Ibom State High Court in Uyo.
While the Incorporated Trustees of Mountain of Fire and Miracles Ministries were listed as the first claimant with Olukoya as the second claimant in the suit marked HU/250/2018, the defendants were Sowore, Incorporated Trustees of Sahara Media Foundation and Sahara Reporters.
The Mountain of Fire and Miracles Ministry founder is also demanding an order for the defendants to “pull down and erase each of the offending stories from the Internet forthwith” in the lawsuit, and also an apology.
The claimants are reportedly seeking an order to compel Sowore and Sahara Reporters to “tender a written apology and retraction, published prominently in their online news report and in at least three nationally circulating newspapers and two international magazines, including TIME International.”
The claimants are also praying for an order of perpetual injunction, “restraining the defendants by themselves, their agents, servants, privies or other persons, howsoever called or described from further publishing and/or disseminating libellous stories and statements against the claimants.”
Asides the lawsuit, a Journalist and public relations consultant, Lekan Fatodu had secured a court order for substituted service bordering on a defamation lawsuit, against Sowore Omoyele, publisher of Sahara Reporters. In a court document with suit no: ID/ADR/492/2017, a High Court sitting in Lagos granted an order that the lawsuit against Sowore and two other defendants should be pasted “on the entrance to the 1st, 2nd and 3rd Defendants being their last known address situated and known as 46B Adekunle Fajuyi way, GRA, Ikeja, Lagos state”.
