This was after her son’s father Nathaniel White Young viciously attacked her on Sunday October 6, 2019, set a portion of Mingle’s home on fire and left her unconscious with a severe head injury on the lawn for dead.

According to the Sullivan County Sheriff’s Office, 37 year old Melissa Mingle died in the hospital while her former boyfriend, 30 year old Nathaniel White-Young, is now charged with first-degree murder.

Melissa’s neighbors had spotted her lying in the yard of her home on Fordtown Road on Sunday afternoon. Immediately, they called the police who responded.

Responding officers found Missy Mingle unconscious but breathing. She had suffered severe head injury and possibly broken bones. She was transported from the scene by EMS for treatment at the hospital.

Before the arrival of the police, Nathaniel White Young had reportedly left the scene, but not before setting fire to a portion of Mingle’s home and taking off with his baby with Mingle, 3 year old Landon.

Police say they prepared to issue an Amber Alert for the boy, but shortly before it was sent out White-Young dropped his son off at another location.

Police were able to find baby Landon and immediately, the search for Nathaniel intensified.

Law enforcement at Hamblen County eventually located and apprehended White-Young on Monday morning.

After he was captured, White-Young was originally charged with attempted murder and arson. However, with Melissa Mingle death, he is now facing a first-degree murder count.

At this time, no further details about White-Young’s possible motives and any events immediately proceeding Sunday’s incident were given.

According to the Sullivan County Sheriff’s Office:

“As this is an ongoing investigation, no further information relating to the case can be released at this time.

Our investigators have been in constant communication with District Attorney General Barry Staubus and his staff regarding the case.”

Mingle’s death is at least the third this year in Sullivan County that appears linked to domestic violence. May her soul rest in perfect peace.
