Mel Devonne radio death, obituary: Beloved Mel Devonne Quiet Storm has passed away.
His death was announced by his wife in a heartbreaking post on Facebook that read:
Rest in peace .. my husband …
may God receive you with open arms ..

His mother, Jacque Kilgore also shared this tribute:
Rest in peace my first born son Melvin Kilgore Jr (gentleman), who has left us (Also, known as Mel Devonne). You will be truly missed and with your brother Miklas Kilgore. Your Radio Audience will miss you also.
Mel was only 61 years old. He was a veteran of 22 years in the radio industry and one of the architects of the “Quiet Storm” format.

Just received the sad news that our brother, former V103 Chicago colleague and veteran syndicated Night Moods/Quiet Storm Air Personality Mel Devonne has passed away at age 61.😢
Mel was a renaissance man, author, documentary filmmaker, college basketball coach, world traveler and the consummate professional.
Mel and I were born in the same year on the same day, something we always acknowledged when we worked together. Condolences to his family and many friends. Rest In Peace

i only just now read of his passing. i was going through old tapes to digitize, and came across some Mel i’d taped off wvaz back in 1994 or so. of all the “quiet storm” hosts i’ve heard all over the country, Mel was, by far, the best. the original and voice par excellence.
