Matthew Wong. March 8 1984 – October 2 2019. 💙 This is the only photograph I ever took of Matthew – on the sidewalk outside his great 2018 solo exhibition at Karma.
(Matthew was a reluctant subject!) I was introduced to Matthew by John Cheim and included his work in a Summer 2017 group show called ‘Outside’ that I organized at Karma’s Amagansett branch.
Matthew came down from Canada for the opening, which is where he met Brendan Dugan and shortly after they would start working together.
Matthew was a brilliant artist and a brilliant person. He will be greatly missed. 💙
