40-year-old man, Abiodun Idowu has been arrested by the Ogun State Police for reportedly killing his co-worker 38-year-old Abimbola Hamzat, while attempting to rape her.
The suspect who was a driver in the same sachet water producing company where the deceased was an accountant, had stocked the deceased on several occasions to have an amorous relationship with her but she bluntly refused his advances.
The arrest of the suspect came on Tuesday, 29th May 2018, after he attempted to rape his co-worker who was alone in the factory. While she was struggling with him, he strangled her to death. The Divisional Police Officer, Onipanu, Ota Division, Sangobiyi Johnson, who confirmed the report, led detectives to the scene where they met the suspect unconscious.
The state Police Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Oyeyemi who spoke to newsmen, said when the suspect realized that he had committed a serious crime, he made efforts to kill himself by drinking hypo and izal. However he was quickly rushed him to a hospital for medical attention, where he was treated and discharged before being detained.
The suspect have been transferred to the homicide section of the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department, Abeokuta, for further investigation and prosecution, as directed by the Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Iliyasu.
Few months ago, an arrested 29-year-old, driving school instructor, Festus Udoh, narrated how he lured, raped and killed a Batch A 2017 member of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) serving in Abeokuta, Ogun State, Ms Modupe Taiyese, in a forest.
Speaking with journalists at the scene of the crime at Abule Ayo area in Mawuko village, Odeda local government area of the State, the suspect said that he did drag the victim into a forest and had sex with her before he strangled her to death.
Prior to the arrest of the suspect, the coordinator of the NYSC in the state, Mr John Okon had complained to the command about a missing corps member in the state.
