Man impersonates police commissioner, defrauds senator of N1.8m in Zamfara
The Zamfara States’s Police Public Relations Officer, SP Mohammed Shehu in a news brief Wednesday announced the police have arrested one Ibrahim Mohammed who allegedly parades himself as police commissioner and has defrauded a senator of N1.8 million
According to Shehu, the fake police commissioner had first succeeded in deceiving the senator through phone calls as N1.6m was transferred into his account.
Another N200,000 was also transferred to the fake CP by the senator as Sallah gift to buy ram.
The fake CP had also called the lawmaker on phone and told him that he gave him three slots for cadet ASP and three slots for cadet inspector, demanding the senator to pay N2m for the slots.
The police spokesman said the suspect was tracked and apprehended by police detectives in Gusau and a Mercedes car and N1.4 million was found on him, and investigation has begun to arrest other members of the syndicate. Meanwhile, the suspect had confessed to his crime saying that he knew what he did was bad. He said he is a polytechnic graduate with two wives and eight children. “I did it to foot the medical bill for my sick wife who is battling cancer.”
