The Katsina Police Command, has arrested a 30-year-old father of five, Nura Aliyu, for allegedly trafficking in drugs suspected to be codeine syrup.
Aliyu from Tsohuwar Tasha, Katsina, who was said to be driving a faded blue Honda Civic car with Kaduna Registration Number, AQ 475 DKA, loaded with 300 cartons of the drug, was picked up on Tuesday evening along Senator Abba Ali road by Mohammed Dikko Stadium in Katsina.
Katsina Police Command PRO, DSP Gambo Isah who confirmed the report placed the monetary value of the drug at N1.5m.
“The Katsina State Police Command wishes to inform the general public that on 12/06/2018 at about 2100hrs, it succeeded in arresting a notorious suspect who specialised in drug trafficking.
“Police patrol team attached to CP’s Surveillance Squad, Katsina while on routine patrol along Senator Abba Ali Road by Mohd Dikko Stadium, Katsina intercepted a Honda Civic with tinted glasses, loaded with 300 bottles of cough syrup suspected to be codeine, driven by one Nura Aliyu ‘m’ of Tsohuwar Tasha, Katsina.
“Suspect confessed to have been in the business of drug trafficking distributing to other members of his drug syndicate and consumers alike. Suspect will be arraigned in court immediately investigation is completed” he said.
Speaking to Northern City News, Aliyu said the urge to make ends meet pushed him into the business.
“I have two wives and five children and I have to fend for them. But I am beginning to regret my action now as I see you people (journalists) with your recorders and television cameras” Aliyu said.
Few weeks ago, the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Edo Command also arrested 41 persons for allegedly trafficking in illicit drugs in the state.

Mr Peter Ogar, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), Benin on Monday that the suspects, including a distributor of codeine, were arrested for drug offences ranging from possession, peddling and consumption in various parts of the state.
