A manhunt has been launched for a 60-year-man Mr. Cletus Aguluka, who reportedly killed his daughter identified as Miss Onyinye Aguluka in her sleep.
It was gathered that the deceased whose wedding was scheduled to hold today, was killed by 2 a.m on Friday in the incident which occurred in Osikwu Village Awgbu, Orumba North Council Area of Anambra State.
The wife of the suspect, Mrs. Georgina Aguluka, who confirmed the report, blamed the sad incident on her husband’s new found love for drinking. According to her, the incident occurred after her husband came home in the night drunk and couldn’t locate his torchlight.
“The children told him that they didn’t know where it was, and he pretended that all was well, only for him to wake up around 1 a.m, went inside his room, brought out a machete and stabbed the daughter,’’ Mrs. Aguluka said.
The immediate younger brother of the suspect, Mr. Sabastian Aguluka disclosed that his brother had been acting like that especially with members of his family including himself. The brothers of the deceased who are twins Sochima and Chideraa Aguluka, told newsmen that they sensed trouble that night and decided to run out of the house because their father always looked for excuses to molest them.
“We thought he had forgotten only for him to wake up around 1am in the morning, went inside his room and brought out a machet and stabbed his daughter” a member of the family who refused to disclose his name said.
An eyewitness account claimed that the suspect escaped through the window and ran away, when men of the village vigilance group got to the house, after which they took the corpse to a morgue. NAN reported that Anambra Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Haruna Mohammed, who also confirmed the incident said;
“Yes, the incident happened on May 31 at about 0200 hrs, and the suspect was arrested yesterday (June 1).
“Investigation is ongoing, after which he would be charged to court,’’ he said.
