The management of Ladoke Akintola University (LAUTECH), is reportedly planning to increase the tuition fees for freshers, returning students.
Report has it that tension and unrest has been experienced in Ladoke Akintola University (LAUTECH) in Ogbomoso, Oyo state, following allegations that the management of the institution has increased the tuition fees for its new and returning students.
The new increment, which will affect students from all levels, and has been seriously objected by the students.
The management, after its 133rd meeting held on Thursday, July 5, came up with the resolve, adding that it was necessitated by the present financially realities of the institution.
The development was made public in a communique announcing the new fee schedule for the 2018/19 academic session, which was released on the school’s website.
A student of the department of history who identified himself as Temitope, stated: “Not all departments were affected. I think five departments were affected in Faculty of Arts.
For those ones, they said its studio fees. The departments are English, Linguistics, Communication and Language Arts, European Studies, Theatre Arts. They are paying N2,500 extra.”
It can be recalled that LAUTECH was on strike for the better part of 2017, as the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) of Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH), Ogbomosho, Oyo State embarked on a strike action.
