Larry King has filed for divorce.
The 85-year-old radio personality filed paperwork for his divorce on Tuesday at a court in Los Angeles in the bid to end his 22-year marriage to actress Shawn King, his seventh wife.
King’s attorney, Michael Trope, confirmed the news, USA Today reports.
The couple tied the knot in a hospital room in 1997, just three days before King had surgery to clear a clogged blood vessel. They share two sons – Chance, 20, and Cannon, 19.
In late April of this year, the legendary host was headed to the hospital for a scheduled angioplasty procedure, however, he began experiencing chest pain.
“Before his scheduled procedure, he experienced angina and went to the hospital early to be examined,” King’s rep said in a statement at the time.
“His doctor successfully performed the angioplasty and inserted stents to reopen the previous bypass from 1987. He has been recuperating in the hospital and is scheduled to be released soon. His doctors expect him to make a full recovery.”
The rep made it clear that, despite reports, “he did not have a heart attack and he did not go into cardiac arrest.”
His son Chance reflected on his father’s health issues Monday, writing, “In life you never know what can happen at any given moment.”
“This summer my Dad faced what looked like an insurmountable amount of health issues. When being told on multiple occasions that by several doctors that there was little hope, all I could think about was how there was nothing I wouldn’t do to get more time with him,” he wrote on Instagram.
“He fought and his INDOMITABLE spirit pulled him through. I will be forever grateful for my Dad and the amazing man and example he is to me. Our love for each other is endless and everlasting.”
“Difficult times can diminish you, define you, or DEVELOP you. Although this experience has been tough, it has been and continues to be a blessing. Pops is getting back to work, watching dodgers games, dinners at palm. Watch out world the man is back and better than ever!”
