The Ogun State Police command has arrested a landlord identified as Sunday Omosule, for reportedly killing the four-year-old son of his tenant, Joseph Akpan, with a pestle.
The arrest of the landlord came after a distress call was made to the police, that he (Omosule) had gone berserk and using the pestle to chase his tenants.
It was also gathered that the mother of the victim was equally hit with the pestle, before the landlord used the same object to hit the boy to death in the incident which occurred on Sunday at No 23, Adeoye Street, Oko Baale Onipanu area of Ogun State.
The state Police Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Oyeyemi, disclosed that the mother of the deceased who sustained an injury in the attack, was taken to the hospital where she is responding to treatment.
“The landlord was arrested following a distress call received by Police at Onipanu Divisional headquarters of the command at Ota.
“The distress call had it that the said landlord went berserk and started using pestle to chase his tenants, consequent upon which he used the said pestle to hit the mother of the deceased on the hand before using it to hit the victim on the head” he said.
On interrogation, Oyeyemi said, the suspect claimed to be under spiritual attacks which always “make him to behave erratically sometimes.”
While the remains of the victim had been deposited in the mortuary at the State General Hospital, Ota, for autopsy, the state Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Iliyasu, ordered that the suspect be transferred to Homicide Section of the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department, Abeokuta, for further investigation.
Few days ago, the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), Imo State Police Command, also arrested a landlord, Felix, for the murder of his tenant, 36-year-old Felix Chukwu. He was allegedly shot with a single barrel gun by Felix over N14,000 four-month house rent at Umuagwu, Ohi Owerri West Local Government.
