The Chairman of Onigbongbo Local Council Development Area of Lagos State, Mr Babatunde Oke, didn’t die from COVID-19 complications his aide has stated.
Earlier reports had suggested that Mr Babatunde Oke died of COVID-19, though the chief press secretary of the council, Ishmaeel Akerele, has debunked the reports.
“Sequel to the widespread rumour that Hon. Babatunde Oke died of COVID-19 complications, I wish to state emphatically that the former executive chairman of Onigbongbo LCDA died after a brief illness.
“While we reflect on the passing of a great leader and astute politician, rumour mongers must not use this medium to distract his immediate families and political associates from the peaceful mourning the late Hon. Babatunde Oke deserves.
“I pray that almighty God grant his household the fortitude to bear this irreparable loss.
“And may his soul rest in peace as we continue to reflect on the life and times of late Hon. Babatunde Oke,” he wrote.
Sources had stated that Oke, a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has been sick for sometime but recovered, only for the sickness to relapsed late last week due to the stress he went through during the last Sallah break where he was reported to have exposed himself again.
