Reality TV star of the Keeping Up With The Kardashians fame, Kim Kardashian West is under fire for flying her friends to a private island for her 40th birthday celebration.
In a Twitter thread, Kardashian West explained what safety precautions she and her guests took — as well as all the fun, exciting activities people who aren’t worrying about next month’s rent can do.
After 2 weeks of multiple health screens and asking everyone to quarantine, I surprised my closest inner circle with a trip to a private island where we could pretend things were normal just for a brief moment in time.
“We danced, rode bikes, swam near whales, kayaked, watched a movie on the beach and so much more. I realize that for most people, this is something that is so far out of reach right now, so in moments like these, I am humbly reminded of how privileged my life is.” she said in the thread’s final tweet.
Before COVID, I don’t think any of us truly appreciated what a simple luxury it was to be able to travel and be together with family and friends in a safe environment. pic.twitter.com/lhzLIdutlZ

The mother-of-four then concluded: ‘I realise that for most people, this is something that is so far out of reach right now, so in moments like these, I am humbly reminded of how privileged my life is. #thisis40’
However, the post was instantly met with criticism from some fans as one commented: ‘Did the pandemic go away?! Omg wish someone would’ve told me we could have massive parties.’
While another wrote,
‘All I see if a whole bunch of people without masks standing around each other,’ and one disgruntled follower added: ‘Very selfish when people are dying and losing their jobs …. also doubt it very much that all 20+ people that attended isolated prior.’
And one fan commented: ‘I love how the elite don’t have to social distance OR wear masks 🙇🏻♀️ called it #hypocrites.’
Happy birthday. I hope someone got you an alphabet book as a gift, so you can learn to read the room. ✨
