The Police have arrested a 22-year-old Katsina student, Aliyu Salisu, who schools at Federal College of Education, Katsina for armed robbery.
The suspect who was arrested on July 1, 2018 shorty after he robbed the house of one Hajiya Aisah Abdullahi at Sabuuwar Unguwar, Katsina, is a 200 level Hausa/ Sociology student of the institution.
The state Police Commissioner, Muhammadu Wakili, who paraded the Katsina student alongside other suspects, said the suspect was caught with another stolen vehicle, a Honda CRV with Nasarawa registration number, BE 788 NSR.
“On 1/07/2018, Aliyu Salisu, alias Alious, aged 22 years who has been on the run, was arrested in possession of another stolen Honda CRV light green in colour, with registration No. BE 788 NSR and two GSM handsets, property of one Nasiru Lawal of No 11 Sarkin Arewa Street, Dutsen-Safen Low Cost, Katsina” he said.
Confessing to the crime as he spoke to newsmen, Salisu said that he had earlier been sent to prison for stealing a handset.
“I’m a 200 level Hausa/Sociology student at FCE, Katsina. My father is responsible for my education. He is a civil servant. This would not be my first crime.
“I had earlier stolen a telephone set, was caught and sent to prison. I was taking the Honda car to a buyer when I was caught. This would be my first time of stealing a car” he said.
This report is coming few months after a Junior Secondary School (JSS) 2, student, Atoo Aondoana, was also held by the Police in Benue State for his alleged involvement in armed robbery along Makurdi-Alaide highway of the state.
Aondoana alongside his accomplice, an elderly cleaner who works with the Nigeria Airforce in Makurdi, Peter Aghande, was held for supplying the military uniforms used for the robbery. The State Commissioner of Police, Fatai Owoseni, yesterday paraded the duo alongside 29 other suspects of armed robbery and cultism at the Police headquarters in Makurdi.
Owoseni said that the suspects were arrested from various locations of the state between March 28 and April 3 for crimes mainly bordered on armed robbery and cultism.
