The Kaduna State Police Commands says the Improvised Explosive Device that was detonated by some children in Kaduna on Saturday was concealed in three empty yogurt containers.
The Saturday incident, which occurred in Badarawa community, Kaduna North Local Government Area, resulted in the death of one adolescent, aged seven, and injured two others, aged nine and seven.
The state’s Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, ASP Mohammed Jalige,, who gave an update on the incident on Sunday said the explosive devices were concealed in three bottles of Viju milk.
“Three Children picked up the bottles but unknown to them, they contained explosive substances; the children started playing football with the bottles, as a result, two of the bottles exploded, injuring the three children.
“The victims were, however, rushed to Barau Dikko Teaching Hospital for treatment, where one of them died owing to injuries he sustained from the explosion.
“One of the victims was treated and discharged, while the third child is still receiving treatment,” he said.
Jalige further stated that the Command’s Explosive Ordinance Department (EOD) is carrying out a holistic forensic analysis of the device in order to apprehend those responsible for the heinous act.
