In a recent letter sighted by LailasNews, the counsel demanded a full investigation into the murder. This is coming after the police denied involvement in his killing.

See a part of the statement below;

“We are counsel representing Mr. Atanda Jimoh and Mrs. Ramota Jimoh, the parents of Isiaq Jimoh who was murdered on 10/10/2020 by men of the Nigerian Police Force serving in Owode Police Station, Ogbomosho, Oyo State during the nationwide #endsars protests.

The Jimoh family have instructed us to write this petition to your office to officially demand an investigation into the cold-blooded murder of their son, Isiaq.

According to reports, Isiaq was not even part of the protests. He was hit by a bullet when your men opened fire to disperse the crowd of unarmed protesters. Even so, his right to lawful gathering and peaceful assembly to protest is constitutionally guaranteed.

We have reports credited to eyewitnesses who are willing to come forward to give statements provided their security is guaranteed, that the DPO was the first officer that fired his sidearm into the crowd of unarmed protesters, and that the policemen that also fired into crowd are one Officer Smart, and another Officer Ayeni, whom eyewitnesses say fired the lethal shot that ultimately killed Isiaq. We have video evidence to back up these allegations.

The actions of your men in Ogbomosho are atrocious. Isiaq was not the only victim of the menace unleashed by your men on Ogbomosho. We have been informed that two other persons whose names are Opakan, and Akeju have also been killed, and four other persons, including a 10-year-old boy are currently being treated of various gunshot wounds at Bowen University Teaching Hospital, Ogbomosho.

It is as a result of the foregoing that we demand an immediate investigation into these matters, particularly the extra-judicial killing of Isiaq, Opakan, and Akeju. We urge you to ensure that the investigation is thorough, fair, and transparent, and that the reports of your investigation are made public when it is concluded.

We also demand the immediate suspension of the Commissioner of Police of Oyo state for his inactions over these matters, the Area Commander of Ogbomosho – who allegedly gave the order to shoot at the unarmed protesters, the DPO of Owode Police Station, Officer Smart and Officer Ayeni; pending the outcome of your investigation. If any or all of these persons are found culpable, we demand their dismissal from service and their criminal prosecution for the crimes committed.

Given the overwhelming evidence of police brutality in Ogbomosho, and the national outcry over these incidents, we hope that you can set up an investigating committee to look into these matters urgently.

Please be informed that if investigation is not conducted into these matters within seven days from the receipt of this letter, we shall take appropriate steps within the law by filing a criminal complaint against these persons pursuant to sections 88 & 89 of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act, 2015.

We strongly believe that the evidence available to us at this material time is sufficient to warrant the filing of our private complaint.”
