The suspect arrested so far by the police for Sperling’s death is a 23-year-old Kent man, who the police are not releasing his name just yet. A second person of interest is said to be cooperating with investigators and is not a suspect.

38 year old Jered Sperling tragically lost his life Monday night after carjacking on his truck.

According to authorities, Sperling’s body was found in the back of the truck, 2 1/2 miles from where it was carjacked.

Immediately, police launched a manhunt for two persons of interest in Sperling’s death after they were caught on security cameras.

Police said the truck was parked and running near the gate of the storage center Sperling managed with his wife when thieves showed up to hijack it.

As the truck was being driven away by the thief, Sterling jumped in the back to stop it. Unfortunately, the suspect was able to flee with Sperling in the truck.

Officers responded just after 8 p.m. Monday to a report of a carjacking at the East Hill Storage facility, 10625 SE 240th St.

They would later locate Jered Sperling, 38, dead in his pickup at a parking lot near the Cascade subsidized housing complex in the 20600 block of 106th Avenue.

The truck was found Tuesday morning at the apartment complex nearby, parked near the mailboxes and adjacent to a “No parking” sign.

Police had received tips that led detectives to the parking lot at about 10:50 a.m. Tuesday. They also said Sperling reportedly did not know the suspects.

KIRO 7 was told by a resident at Cascades Homes Apartment that they found a body in the abandoned truck.

Kent police also told KIRO 7 they have video of the carjacking but have decided not to release it yet. They however did not say how Sperling died because the homicide case is still under investigation.

The King County Medical Examiner’s Office will later confirm Sperling’s identification and determine a cause of death.

Investigators were still processing the scene and utilizing any and all available resources in an effort to locate and get the suspect or suspects into custody.

According to Facebook, Jared Sperling and his wife, Cynthia Sperling moved to Kent in August 2017 from Lodi, California. He and Cynthia were married in 2011.
