The beloved radio sports icon died surrounded by his family, barely three months after his cancer diagnosis.

Vince Koza death was announced by his daughter Brittany Koza, in a statement on a CaringBridge.org page that read:

“He fought so so hard, but there was just too much cancer. It overtook his lungs, and he just couldn’t breathe anymore.

His heart was strong, but it just just too much work. I know he fought as hard as he could for as long as he could, and that towards the end he was purely fighting for my mom, my sister and me.

Thank you all for your kindness, love and support. I know he felt it, and I know it meant the world to him.

He loved you all. He loved Lima. And it was amazing to see how much you all loved him back. Thank you for giving him that gift.”

93.1 The Fan shared a tribute on social media that read:

“Unfortunately, our dear friend @thekoz931 passed away this morning after his 3-month battle with cancer.

Please keep his wife, Holly (Geaman), and his daughters Brittany and Sarah in your prayers.”

Before his death, Koza was a strong voice in local sports, first on WLIO-TV and later on on 93.1 The Fan where he had a daily talk show, “SportsTalk with Koza.”

He was diagnosed with cancer in October 2019

Koza lost his dad to pancreatic cancer. And his father-in-law. Both of his dads died within five months of each other.

Vince Koza funeral arrangements are pending.
