25-year-old security guard Sale Bala, who abducted his employer’s 10-year-old boy at Dutsen-Kura community in Minna, Niger State with his accomplice, 20-year-old Yushe’u Bala, have been arrested by the State’s Police Command.
The suspects who were arrested by police operatives attached to GRA Division, Minna, after abducting Afdal Hadi, of the same address, had demanded N150,000 ransom for his release. It was gathered that Bala connived with his accomplice who was also a security guard in the area, to kidnap the minor to raise money to enhance their standard of living.
Trouble, however, started hours later when it was time for dinner, the parents could not find Abdallah who usually joined his father, a businessman to eat and none of his playmates, including children from the neighbourhood he usually played with, could account for his whereabouts.
The security man took Abdallah to nowhere in particular as he communicated with someone on his mobile telephone, through Keteren-Gwari road and they later ended up somewhere at London Street where he met and handed him over to another security man who was said to be his friend.
The suspects on their own part, said they kidnapped the boy in order to make money to improve their lives, stressing that they were tired of working as security guards.
“Our N150,000 ransom demand is affordable compared with what other kidnappers demand; we ventured into it to make little money to improve ourselves and leave security guard work,” he explained.
“I pray that the police will forgive me because I cannot explain how the plan was hatched to the extent of kidnapping the son of my employer,” he said.
Confirming the incident, the Command’s Public Relations Officer, Muhammad Abubakar, told Northern City News on Sunday that the arrested suspects would be arraigned in court after investigation.
