Read touching tributes from friends and loved ones of Herman:

From Jon-Michael:

R.I.P. American author Herman Wouk (1915-2019). He was the ripe old age of 103 years old when he died today!!!!!!!!

His 1951 novel The Caine Mutiny won the Pulitzer Prize for Fiction.

His other works include The Winds of War and War and Remembrance, historical novels about World War II, and non-fiction such as This Is My God, a popular explanation of Judaism from a Modern Orthodox perspective, written for Jewish and non-Jewish audiences.

His books have been translated into 27 languages.

The Washington Post called Wouk, who cherishes his privacy, “the reclusive dean of American historical novelists.”

Historians, novelists, publishers, and critics who gathered at the Library of Congress in 1995 to mark Wouk’s 80th birthday described him as an American Tolstoy.

  • From Baruch Dayan HaEmmet:

Mr. Herman Wouk, author of ‘This is My God’, ‘Winds of War’, ‘War and Remembrance’ and many more gems was niftar today. He was a lifelong friend of my family, Chabad and the Desert community.
He was a wonderful author and an incredible person.
He would’ve been 104 next week. Those who lived, prayed and learned with him are already missing him, his voice and his smile.
So deeply saddened to be using his name in past tense.

May his soul rest in perfect peace.
