Hannah Lager was killed in a rush hour car accident in Jefferson Co. on Wednesday morning.

The Kansas Highway Patrol says Hannah N. Lager died when her car collided with a tractor trailer on K-4, about two miles north of Valley Falls, just after 7:30 a.m.
According to crash reports, the pregnant Atchison woman was on the inside lane of the highway, driving a 2008 Chevrolet Impala, and was heading south on the highway when she tried to pass a semi truck, which was also traveling south and trying to merge into her lane.
Lager swerved into the oncoming, northbound lane. She over-corrected and lost control of her Chevrolet Impala and began skidding.
Investigators say the sedan began to skid and then collided with semi. Both vehicles then came to a rest on across the shoulder and northbound lane of the highway.
The driver of the tractor-trailer, identified as 75 years old Warren E. Hollis from Valley Falls was taken to the hospital for a possible injury. The pregnant Kansas woman who was a teacher for two school districts was pronounced dead in the crash.
Both drivers were wearing seat belts at the time of the crash, the highway patrol indicated.
Lager taught Spanish at the Valley Falls Unified School District 338. It was her first year of teaching Spanish to middle school and high school students. She was also a teacher for the Jefferson County North school district.
Superintendent Volora Hanzlicek said Lager “was a great teacher and will be missed by all.”
A Facebook post by Benedictine College said Lager, who graduated in 2017, got married last June. She and her husband were expecting their first child in a few months.
