Gunmen abduct Enugu monarch, requests N50m ransom

Sunday Orji, the indigenous ruler of Obom Autonomous Community in Agbogugu, Awgu Local Government Area of Enugu State, has been kidnapped by unknown gunmen.

Orji was abducted with his wife along the Enugu-Portharcourt expressway near Ogbaku town about 5:00 pm on Sunday, August 4 to an undiscovered address.

Ebere Amaraizu, PRO to Enugu State Police Command, confirmed the occurrence. He stated the police have started operation to rescue the couple.

It was revealed that the couple were on their way to the thanksgiving service of a newly ordained Catholic priest in Obinagu community, Agbogugu, when they were captured.

A source declared police took away the ruler’s car that was left at the spot of the incident.

The source revealed that the abductores had made contact with the family and are asking N50 million as ransom.

Earlier before the couple’s kidnap, the Awgu axis of Enugu-Port Harcourt Expressway was a scene of similar wicked activities.

A commercial motorist, Kenneth Igwe, was announced kidnapped in the district last week.
