Governor Udom Emmanuel of Akwa Ibom State, has formally declared his intention to seek a second term as the Governor the South-South State.
Governor Udom Emmanuel who declared his ambition to run for second term come 2019, was supported by a huge crowd who filled up the stadium up with different colorful attires. Addressing the crowd, he said;
‘I came today following the ratings and commendations A’Ibom People drawn from the 3 Senatorial Dist, and also cutting across diverse segments of our population, that I have made results-oriented efforts in serving A’Ibom people since I was elected in 2015’.
Speaker of the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, Onofiok Luke who also spoke at the event, said;
‘We will resist those who want to capture Akwa Ibom State with the last drip of our blood. Strangers cannot take our land”.
Udom Gabriel Emmanuel (born 11 July 1966) is the governor of Akwa Ibom State of Nigeria and was sworn in on 29 May 2015. He ran successfully for the office of governor in the April 2015 elections on the platform of Akwa Ibom State People’s Democratic Party.
Before now, he served as the Secretary to the State Government under his predecessor and political mentor, Godswill Akpabio. Udom is known for his “dakadda” (arise) initiative. According to him, his main policy focus is industrialization. He is a deacon of the Qua Iboe Church, Uyo.
Before the call to public service, Udom had reached the peak of the financial sector. He left Zenith Bank Nigeria PLC as an Executive Director after having served in several capacities for over seventeen years (1996-2013). He formerly served as Audit Manager at Price Water house Coopers, London and Branch Manager, Diamond Bank in Lagos.
Udom Joined Zenith Bank from Diamond Bank in 1996. At various times he served as Branch Manager, General Manager and Group Head Telecommunications, Income Optimization and Finance Control and Strategic Planning. Within this time, he functioned in the capacity of Non-executive Director in several African countries and the United Kingdom.
