Anambra State Governor, Willie Obiano, today hosted the 5 Anambra Schoolgirls who won the World Technovation Challenge held recently in San Francisco, USA.
The students of Regina Paecis, were presented cheques for one million naira each by the Anambra State Government at the reception held at the governor’s lodge. It was also gathered that Governor Willie Obiano also presented cheques for two million naira each to the Principal of the school and the mentor of the Students, at the event which was used to mark the 27th Anniversary of the creation of Anambra State.
The Anambra Schoolgirls were also awarded scholarships up to University level by the Anambra State government, at the ceremony which parents and teachers of the students, members of the National and State Assemblies, State government functionaries turned up for.
Recall that we reported that the five Nigerian schoolgirls from Anambra State, won gold at Technovation competition 2018 held in Silicon Valley, California. The acting president of Nigeria, Yemi Osinbajo, on Friday, August 10, congratulated the team of Nigerian schoolgirls through his official Twitter handle.
“These young ladies in Junior Secondary School, developed a mobile application called ‘FD Detector’ to tackle the problems of fake pharmaceutical products in Nigeria.
Yesterday, they won the 2018 Technovation World Pitch in California. Congratulations! We are very proud of you.
Well done to Uchenna Onwuamaegbu-Ugwu, the founder of Edufun Technik STEM Center. I understand that she and her company were responsible for mentoring the young ladies. Great job!”
They defeated teams from the USA, Spain, Turkey, Uzbekistan and China to win the 2018 Technovation world pitch junior division. The team, Save-A-Soul developed a mobile application, ‘FD Detector’ which could be used to tackle the problem of fake pharmaceutical products in the country.
