Undergraduates of the Usman Dan Fodio University (UDUS) Sokoto, demand RUGA settlement in Sokoto in a staged protest.
Some undergraduate students of Usman Dan Fodio University (UDUS) Sokoto, took to the streets to protest over the suspension of the planned RUGA settlement for Fulani herdsmen across the country.
The students can be seen carrying placards which had inscriptions in Hausa, Fulfulde and English, the students of Usman Dan Fodio University (UDUS) Sokoto called for the implementation of the RUGA settlement as they took to major highways of Sokoto metropolis to protest today, July 13, 2019.
Weeks ago, the Federal Government of Nigeria proposed the RUGA settlement project. Following the protest and outcry against this initiative across the nation, the government announced its suspension.
O the 4th of July, the Coalition of Northern group’s spokesperson, Abdul-Azeez Suleiman, gave a 30 days ultimatum to governors of the southern region of the country to accept the RUGA initiative.
“While we warn all state governments that stand against the implementation of the Ruga
Initiative to desist and give peace a chance, we place President Buhari and the Federal Government on notice that they must completely stop this raging madness within 30-days
ultimatum beginning from today, Wednesday.”
