Gbagada joggers arrested, ordered to be quarantined for 14 days

A magistrate’s court in Yaba, Lagos state, has sentenced 34 joggers from the Gbagada area of Lagos to 14 days quarantine and one month community service for violating the state’s directives.

The Gbagada joggers were arrested on Wednesday for participating in fitness exercise along the Gbagada-Oworonsoki expressway.

Pictures of the joggers, who gathered in large numbers on the highway to work out, had surfaced on the social media on Tuesday.

They pleaded guilty to the one count against them and were sentenced to one month of community service.

In addition, the court ordered that they should be quarantined for 14 days at the Infectious Diseases Hospital, Yaba, or any other place designated by the government.

Nigeria has a total of 254 coronavirus cases recorded in 16 states with Lagos being the epicenter recording the highest with 130 cases at the time of reporting this story.
