The €65,780 and other monies recovered from Edo Indigenes who died in an accident shortly after they arrived Nigeria from Spain, was returned today by Ogun State FRSC Sector Commander, Corps Commander, Clement Oladel.
In an accident which occurred on Tuesday 12 June 2018 at Sagamu along the Lagos – Ibadan expressway, eight persons died after a white Toyota Hiace bus and a blue Mack truck opposite the Wichtech Roofing and Pipes on Lagos-Ibadan expressway collided.
The accident victims had chartered the bus on the fleet of Iyare Motors, and were going to Benin City for an engagement when the accident happened. It was further gathered that seven of the passengers in the bus died on the spot, while the eighth person died at the hospital. However one person survived the incident.
Public Relations Officer, Ogun Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps, Mr. Babatunde Akinbiyi, stated that the accident was caused by speeding and wrongful overtaking on the part of the bus driver.
Few months ago, the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) also rescued crash victims involved in a lone accident on the Lagos /Ibadan Expressway and returned over N2 million recovered from the crash scene to the owner.
Clement Oladele, the FRSC Sector Commander in Ogun, disclosed this to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abeokuta. Mr. Oladele said the accident happened around 10:15am and it involved 11 people, comprising of three men, six female adult and two female children.
The sector commander noted that though, there were no deaths recorded, nine of the passengers which included three male adult and six female adult sustained serious injuries.
“The lone crash involved a Yellow Toyota LiteAce bus with registration number WWD 558 XA travelling from Ibadan to Lagos.
“The suspected cause of the crash was tyre burst by the speeding bus which lost control.
“The injured victims were taken to Ifeoluwa hospital Ogunmakin for medical treatment and the road obstruction cleared, “he said.
The FRSC boss said the victims’ belongings inside the ill-fated bus were conveyed to FRSC Command at Ogunmakin, where on routine documentation the sum of N2. 096million was recovered.
