Five soldiers attached to the 32 Artillery Brigade of the Nigeria Army in Akure, who allegedly gang-rapied a 300-level student of the Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba Akoko in Ondo State have reportedly been arrested.
Recall that yesterday, we reported that a student was allegedly raped by soldiers while on her way home from the Adekunle Ajasin University campus. Doctors have now confirmed that the student was indeed raped at the Ondo State Specialist Hospital.
The brigade had initially denied the rape allegation but was later put under pressure by the interference of the media who made the story go viral.
The Brigade Commander Zakari Abubakar, allegedly claimed that the rape allegation might be a ploy to weaken the army’s plan to counter kidnappers when he initially got the first report on Wednesday July 31.
On Friday, when he was contacted, he confirmed the arrest of the soldiers saying,
“It is very true that they (the soldiers) have been arrested. We have commenced our investigation,” he said.
