Five persons have been arrested over the murder of an innocent man who was wrongfully accused of stealing a phone in Ajah area of Lagos State.
A lady, Bolanle Muhammed, and four others have been arrested for alleged murder of a 22-year-old man wrongly accused of stealing the lady’s phone in Ajah, Lagos.
We recently reported the incident which occurred on July 8, 2019, at about 8pm at a beverage shop in Badore, Ajah. Bolanle Muhammed, who’s the shop owner, was said to have raised alarm that the victim, Olamide Omolegbe, stole her phone. She called on a mob who immediately started descending on him.
Olamide Omolegbe was however beaten to death by Wasiu Wahab, Ramon Ibrahim, Junior Adebayo and Yusuf Adegbite. They beat up Omolegbe and when he died, they threw him into the lagoon.
His body was recovered by a team of detectives on July 10.
Investigation revealed that Omolegbe was atually wrongfully accused as the phone was said to have been stolen by the owner of the shop’s son.
According to an eye witness who spoke with Premium Times, the deceased was first
paraded half-naked to Iyalaye Store where the alleged theft occurred, before being beaten to death.
“After he eventually died, the thugs threw him into the lagoon. But we concerned people of the community paid Egun people to help trace the corpse after we heard the incident. The corpse was brought out of the river this morning,” he said.
