Tragedy struck today in Port-Harcourt, as fire from a fallen tanker burned down shops, houses, and also killed three people.

The incident reportedly occurred at Rumuola, and the fallen tanker spilled its content into the drain extending from Rumuola to MOPOL-nineteen. It was gathered that fire from the fallen tanker, burned from the drains, torched shops around Rumoula and stretched to G.R.A Phase Four to burn houses.

Eyewitnesses also blamed slow response of the Rivers state Fire Service, for the level damage done by the fire.One Chibuchi who spoke to a Daily Post correspondent said;

“I am angry because of the magnitude of what I have lost here. When the fire started we were calling Fire Service but they were not responding. And this I not the kind of fire that ordinary people can quench.

“The fire was burning from Rumuola down to this MOPOL-19, If not for the MFM Church that came to the rescue, the damage would have been worse than this.”

  6. So sad, I feel for the lives and properties that have been lost, I also think the government should be blamed for this. there are no adequate facilities to mobilise the firemen, and the government should also recruit galant men for this job.

I am still saying this, that government should give rules that either stop them from running during the day of construct a road that would not lead to town where people lives and carry out their daily activities….Again, most fire outbreak in Nigeria may not have gone worst if the fire service do respond quick….sorry to those whose shops and goods got damaged and rest in peace to those who lost their lives as a result of the fire.

  55. I wish I have the money and influence to sue the government. How will they continuously allow tanker to roam about the street. This is not the first time or second time its happening. And now they will be telling us to vote for them. How can we when you don’t even value the people’s life.

This is not good at all,the fire service has to be alert especially this period so many fire incident is happening,also some of our drivers in this country are not helping matters,they used to take drugs or drink alcoho before embarking on a journey a law should be enacted any driver found in such act should spend some times in a prison
