Farouk Lawan jailed over $500,000 bribe

Farouk Lawan has been convicted and sentenced to at least seven years imprison for receiving $500,000 bribe from a businessman, Femi Otedola.

The former member of House of Representatives from Kano State was sent to jail by a High Court of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) in Apo, Abuja.

Justice Angella Otaluka convicted Lawan on the three-count charge on which he was tried by the Independent Corrupt Practices and other related offences Commission (ICPC).

The judge sentenced him to seven years imprisonment in respect of counts one and two and five years on count three.

Lawan was the chairman of the house of representatives ad hoc committee probing the multi-billion naira fuel subsidy fraud in 2012.

He was accused of demanding $3 million from Femi Otedola to remove Zenon Petroleum and Gas Limited (Otedola’s former company) from the list of oil companies allegedly involved in the fuel subsidy fraud in 2012.
