A fake currency note producer identified as Collins Oputa, has been arrested by operatives of the Ogui Division of the Nigeria Police Force, Enugu state command.
The arrest of the suspect over his alleged nefarious activities came after a manhunt was launched, based on intelligence gathered on his alleged criminal activities of producing the fake naira currency and also giving it to his agents for circulation.
The fake currency note producer from Ohaji Imo state but residing in Lagos state, described his involvement in the illicit act as a satanic act and pledged to quit the illicit business if he is given back his freedom. According to the police, he is now helping the operatives in their investigations in relation to his alleged criminal activities with his cohorts.
NAN reported that the command’s spokesman, Ebere Amaraizu, said in a statement in Enugu on Sunday that the suspect, Collins Oputa, was nabbed on July 26.
“Oputa, who claimed that he is a native of Ohaji community in Imo State but residing at 4 Fatimo Close in Ijegun, Lagos State, was nabbed in Lagos.
“His arrest followed a manhunt initiated based on intelligence information gathered on his alleged criminal activities of producing and giving the fake currency naira notes to his agents for circulation,’’ he said
This is coming after the Osun State Commissioner of Police, Adeoye Fimihan, confirmed the arrest of six persons in connection with the printing, selling and spending of fake local and foreign currencies.
Mr. Fimihan made this known at the Osun State Police Command, Osogbo, while parading the suspects before journalists. Among the suspects was a herbalist, Odediran Semiu, said to be specialized in printing of fake foreign currencies and swindling gullible clients. The suspects gave details of how they carried out their nefarious acts without the knowledge of the police and the public.
