APC governorship candidate in Edo State, Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu, has called on Governor Godwin Obaseki to return to APC.
In June 2020, Obaseki defected from the APC to the PDP following his running battle with his predecessor and former National Chairman of the APC, Adams Oshiomole.
The battle between both men led to Obaseki being disqualified from the APC governorship primaries which saw Osagie win the Edo State governorship ticket.
However, Obaseki immediately defected to PDP where he was able to secure the party’s governorship ticket and won the September 19 Edo State election.
In a television broadcast on Wednesday night September 23, Ize-Iyamu appealed to Obaseki to return to the APC as he said the party planned to talk to everybody and bring them back.
“We are going to talk to everybody. We are going to bring everybody back. I want to salute my brother, the governor. I will like to appeal to him to return to the party. In every family, we have a disagreement.
Let it not be said that it was this disagreement that pushed him out. I made that mistake before and I have come to realize that it was a grievous error and I will not want him as a senior brother to make the same mistake.
I will like to appeal to him to set aside his anger and come back. In APC, he is recognized as a leader and it would be difficult for him to be recognized as a leader in the new party he is going to.
Certainly, we are ready to work with him and all well-meaning Edo people. We believe it is time to bring peace back to Edo State.” he said
Obaseki defeated Ize-Iyamu in the Edo State governorship election with 307,955 votes while Ize-Iyamu got 223,619 votes on Saturday September 19.
