Instagram comedian, Ebiye has retrieved his misogynist comment her made earlier on singer Aramide’s Headies Awards win. He had posted via SnapChat that the singer probable slept her way through the win.
The comedian however apologized today after he was attacked on Instagram by entertainers and social media users on the derogatory comment about the married singer
Apparently after Aramide was announced winner of Best Alternative Song for her track, funmilowo mi, Ebiye took to his snapchat to state that she probably ‘fucked’ the organisers for the award as she didn’t derserve it.
“She can’t even believe it, lol she prolly f***ed for the award. #Headies,” Ebiye said.
The misogynist comment stirred outrage on social media, as it should. And seeing the damage he has done to his ‘career’, Ebiye rushed to Instagram to issue a statement, chalking his misogyny to ‘distasteful joke’.
“I made a distasteful joke about @aramidemusic last night at the headies. I am embarrassed by my comments and I am profusely sorry. Aramide is a hardworking artist who deserves every recognition she gets by merit. I sincerely apologize and pledge that such will not repeat itself again,” he wrote.
“I pledge to control my words in the future as things said and written cannot be taken back.”
Aramide although has not made any statement on both Ebiye’s comment and his apologies. Remember that Ebiye had been chastised by a social media critic also who wondered if he will ever last just as Aramide has lasted in the entertainment Industry.
Part of the chastisement reads:
We must do better. Ebiye is just one person, but he’s a reflection of a very sick industry- and society. Emerging female entertainers deal with sexualization and objectification on a daily basis so it is incredulous to them when a woman actually succeeds.
Nincompoops like him cannot believe that she did it by herself and resort to the tired line- ‘she fucked someone to get here’. Ebiye has ‘apologized’ for his ‘distasteful joke’.
But would he have had the cojones to make such a joke if he was standing on stage and being televised live? Would he have made that type of joke if Aramide were standing right next to him? Obviously not. That’s why he became a slimy troll who hid behind a smartphone to insult her on Snapchat.
