The Gombe State Police Command, have arrested a 25-year-old driver who reportedly killed a University Professor in the state.
The suspect who was paraded before newsmen at the Police Headquarters in Gombe, the capital, reportedly robbed and killed the professor who before his death was a lecturer with the Federal University, Kashere, Gombe State, and was also his boss.
It was gathered that an unspecified amount of cash, two phones and other valuables were taken away by the driver. The Police Public Relations Officer in Gombe State, Obed Malum, told Punch’s correspondent;
“Consequent upon the receipt of the sad, bewildering and disturbing report, the Deputy Commissioner in charge of the Department of Criminal Investigation led a team of detectives to visit and review the scene of the crime.
“Thereafter, the Commissioner of Police immediately constituted a team of professional detectives headed by an Assistant Commissioner of Police to unravel the motive behind the crime, trail and arrest the perpetrators within the shortest possible time.
“The team was empowered and they immediately swung into action and the driver was arrested.”
Few months ago, it was also reported that a 28-year-old driver identified as Clement Ekuase, was arrested by the Edo State Police Command for allegedly killing his 89 year old boss, Pa Nosakhare Omo Osagie, and dumping his body in a pit toilet.
It was gathered that Ekuase was employed as a driver to the deceased, before he allegedly killed him with a pestle, dispossessed him of the vehicle, and sold it to a herbalist in Ovbiogie village. According to Punch, The suspect had informed the victim’s children, based abroad, that their father has been abducted and the kidnappers demanded a ransom of N2m.
The children of the deceased were said to have paid the ransom, which the suspect collected, with a promise that their father would be released soon. The decomposing body of the deceased was, however, discovered inside a pit toilet by some relatives who visited his residence.
