A Container load of military wears and other items has been intercepted by Nigeria’s customs along Aba- Port Harcourt road.

Mr Joseph Attah, the Public Relations Officer, Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) who released a statement on the interception, disclosed that the examination of the container was conducted in the presence of the owner’s representative.

“The roving team of the Federal Operations Unit (FOU) Zone C, have seized a container with registration number MRSU 3040288 found to carry military uniforms and other items along Aba- Port Harcourt road.

”The container was taken to owerri where proper examination in the presence of the representative of the owner revealed the followings, 11 bales containing new sets of sawn military camouflage.

”Each bale contain 400 pairs of sawn military camouflage, 15 cartons containing Altama combat boots each carton contains 20 pairs and some sacks of made up garments.

“Seven Wooden furniture kitchen cabinets, 337 packs of new foreign tiles made in China, 27 medical equipment made in China, 34 rolls of water hose made in China and some household items,” Attah said.

NAN also reported that the Comptroller in charge of FOU, Zone C, Ahmed Azarema, said the owner’s representative had been detained. Attah said investigation to unravel all those connected to the crime had already commenced.

This follows up report of the Nigeria Customs Service(NCS), intercepting 1,100 guns at the Tincan Island Port, Lagos. The contraband was discovered in a 20 feet container marked GESU25255208 and was concealed with water closet and sanitary wares.

The Customs Comptroller General, Gamers Ali said in Lagos that the container was not among those listed for examination. He listed the contraband as including 600 pieces of Jojef Magnum Black, Pump rifles, Jojef Magnum Silver pump action rifles, Jojef Magnum plastic single barrel hunting gun pump action rifles.

The Comptroller-General of NCS, Hameed Ali, told journalists in Lagos that the seizure was the fourth at the Lagos port within eight months.

“Customs decided to follow profiling approach of 100 per cent examination on containers, especially those from Turkey.

“Tin-Can Customs command intercepted another 20ft container No CMAUI817/8 containing 470 pump action rifles immediately the container landed from the port of origin to Nigerian ports.

“The terminal operator was consequently directed to quarantine the container for analysis.

“The container was later transferred to Enforcement Unit of the command where 100 per cent examination revealed it contained 470 pump action rifles.”
